How is silk washed?
How to wash silk?
Preparation: Start by turning your silk bedding inside out and closing the zipper. Additionally, a laundry bag is recommended.
Separation: Keep your silk bedding separate from other textiles, especially those with sharp zippers or rough materials that can scratch the silk.
Temperature: Use cold water to wash silk bedding. Warm water can damage the fibers and cause shrinking or color loss. (30 degrees)
Mild detergent: Use a mild detergent designed for delicate fabrics. Avoid bleach or strong chemicals, as they can damage the silk.
Hand wash or gentle cycle: You can either hand wash the silk bedding or use a gentle cycle in your washing machine. If using a washing machine, select a delicate program with low spin to avoid stretching or damaging the fabric.
Rinsing: For hand washing – rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residues. You can repeat rinsing several times to ensure all soap is gone.
Drying: Avoid wringing or stretching the silk bedding while drying. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and then let it air dry on a flat surface or hang it on a hanger. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause discoloration.
Ironing: If necessary, you can iron your silk bedding on low heat, preferably on the reverse side to avoid direct contact with the heat.
