The many benefits of silk

Temperature-Regulating – Cool in Summer

Mulberry silk has countless benefits – whether used as bedding, pillowcases, or nightwear. Many people are unaware that silk is both breathable and temperature-regulating. In short, silk feels cool during the warm summer months and comfortably warm in winter. Its breathable structure also helps to wick moisture away from the skin, preventing sweat from settling in the fabric. This provides a more comfortable and undisturbed night's sleep. The properties of silk are simply exceptional – and should be experienced firsthand.

Allergy-Friendly Material

Genuine silk is known to many as both a beautiful and luxurious material. But silk is not just an aesthetic choice – it is also especially recommended for people with allergies or sensitive skin. The silk fibers come from the cocoon of the silkworm, which forms on mulberry trees. A single cocoon can contain up to 3,500 meters of continuous thread, which forms the basis of the fine silk fabric.

The cocoons are collected and undergo gentle processing, preserving the natural components – including the fibers that give silk its anti-allergic properties. One of the key proteins is sericin, which naturally repels dust mites, one of the most common causes of allergic reactions in the home. Additionally, silk contains more than 18 different amino acids that counteract mold, bacteria, and other allergens that often accumulate in a bedroom.

Therefore, silk is not only a luxurious material – it is also an ideal choice for a healthier and more allergy-friendly sleeping environment.

Healthy for the Skin

Several studies document that silk has a positive effect on the skin. One of the main benefits is that silk helps retain the skin’s moisture. The smooth silk fabric absorbs far less moisture than, for example, cotton, making it especially beneficial for people with dry skin or skin conditions such as psoriasis.

If you do not want to invest in a full silk bedding or pajama set, a silk pillowcase can be a perfect alternative. It creates optimal conditions for both skin and hair – night after night.

Genuine Silk is Flame-Resistant

Did you know that genuine silk fabric is flame-resistant? This means that silk does not catch fire if a spark lands on the fabric. Instead, the silk will melt but not ignite like a flame. The flame-resistant effect is a result of the natural fibers found in silk fabric.

The Softest Material

Once you have felt genuine silk, you will have no doubt about its luxurious quality. The silk fabric is as light as a feather, and it is amazing that there is so much fabric in such a light material. The soft sensation comes from the smooth and fine surface, which is the result of the very dense silk surface.

Silky soft does not mean it is silk

You have probably seen ads where the words “silky soft fabric” are used. However, these often do not refer to silk but a blend product such as polyester. Genuine mulberry silk cannot and should never be compared to synthetic fibers like polyester or other man-made fabrics. You will never achieve the same properties with synthetic textiles as you will with natural fibers found in genuine silk.

Silk is Environmentally Friendly

Silk is a zero-waste product. This means that all by-products are reused in other products such as filling for duvets and pillows. You can read more about the environmental aspects of silk production here.
